2017 Young Jury Results

Leeds Young Film Festival’s Young Jury is a fun opportunity for young film buffs to become part of the festival team. Jury members receive free entry to film screenings at the festival and discuss new international films in competition after the screenings. We provide training in critical film watching so that you feel confident in making the final decisions and choosing the festival’s winning short and feature films.

We certainly had lots of fun this year and would really like to thank all our Jury members, you were absolutely fantastic!

The Jury’s winning Leeds Young Film Festival 2017 films are…

Winner: Golden Wings Jury Feature Film Award

Zip & Zap and the Captain’s Island
The Jury’s Golden Wings Feature Film Award went to Zip &Zap as the film was adventurous and really gripped them. They found the story dramatic, emotional and completely unpredictable and liked the film’s message, which they summarised as “don’t take anything for granted”.

Special Mention: Golden Wings Jury Feature Film Award

At Eye Level
The Jury would like to give a special mention to At Eye Level for its approach to bring diversity to the screen in an emotional but subtle story that does not shy away from real issues.

Winner: Golden Wings Jury Short Film Award

Swimming in the Desert
The Jury thought that this short film had an extremely important message and showed that an individual’s actions could really affect change in a community. They found it funny and unique within the competition and were impressed with the wide ranging appeal, as the film spoke not only to them but to audiences of all ages.

If you are aged 8+ and are interested in taking part in the Jury 2018, please let us know by emailing Martin.Grund@leeds.gov.uk. We will send you more information nearer to the festival 2018.
