Leeds Young Filmmakers’ Golden Owl Awards 2017 is an exciting filmmaking competition for young people aged 19* and under, taking place in partnership with Leeds Young Film Festival 2017 (LYFF). On Thursday 30 March 2017, Leeds Town Hall will be host to an Oscars-style awards extravaganza, celebrating the filmmaking talents of young people across the city. Now is the time to get making your film!
No filmmaker is too young to enter and we want to see films by young people of all abilities – you don’t need to be Steven Spielberg or Sofia Coppola! Any type of film or genre can be entered, including comedy, horror, drama, animation or documentary. It doesn’t need to have taken forever to make, and we’d love to see what young people have been able to create on a shoestring budget – or none at all! Visit YouTube to see some of the winning videos from the last Golden Owl Awards.
There are awards to be had in eight different categories, for individuals, community groups, schools and colleges. The 6th annual Golden Owl Award gives young people an opportunity to have their work celebrated and rewarded in front of an audience of friends, parents, carers, teachers, filmmaking professionals and other young film enthusiasts. This year’s MediaFish Perspective Award with MindMate looks to mental health and emotional wellbeing and will celebrate the theme of resilience. Young filmmakers who make films outside of school or college can also enter their film into the national INDIs (Independent Directions) Award at LYFF.
